Kidd Faces Civil Suit
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Main
New Jersey Nets point guard Jason Kidd has been a busy man these days. First there is the “contract-turned-migraine” issue that, like a New York Knicks losing streak, will not go away. Even before then, there was his current divorce lawsuit of the “he-said, she-said” variety. Now it gets even better; according to Samuel Maull of the Associated Press, Kidd is the subject of a civil lawsuit filed by a 23-year old model Thursday who accuses him of groping and threatening her at a Manhattan nightclub two months ago.
Specifically, the lawsuit, filed in Manhattan’s (NY) state Supreme Court, states that Kidd “battered and assaulted” the woman in the nightclub named Tenjune on October 10 when he allegedly grabbed her buttocks and crotch on multiple occasions. According to the woman’s lawyer, Russell S. Adler, she told him to “get off of her and get away from me”. When she protested, he replied, “If we have a fight, who do you think is going to win?”
A spokesman for the New York Police Department confirmed that the woman filed a criminal complaint against Kidd, accusing him of the same acts. The civil lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. A spokesman for Kidd, Scott Miranda, did not immediately return a call to the AP for comment; however, back in October, Miranda said the charge was “a complete fabrication” and that it was “sad that someone would make something like this up.”
Kidd is not a total stranger to courtroom visits. He is currently in the middle of a divorce and has denied his wife’s charges that he has cheated on and physically abused her during their 10-year marraige; he has stated that he was the victim of spousal abuse (uhhhh….okie dokie). I wonder if this is yet some more ammo for the Nets to use in order to trade him. But to be fair - and I am not a lawyer nor do I profess to be one - several scenarios play out here. Either he did in fact “harrass” this woman, or she was simply looking for a payday (and no I do not mean the candy bar).
And the timing is rather curious, as well. Kidd’s current divorce proceedings and this lawsuit - it seems to me that Kidd wouldn’t want to hang himself with another lawsuit when he has one to deal with already. But people can act unpredictably for whatever reason, so I suppose anything is possible so therefore - what do I know?
