I bet that the Miami Heat wish they had forward and 3-point marksman Jason Kapono back - especioally after his performance against the Indiana Pacers Friday night. Kapono scored 17 second-half points, leading the Toronto Raptors past the Pacers 104-93 at Conseco Fieldhouse. Indiana led Toronto 25-21 at the end of one period, then proceeded to drain 5-of-8 three-pointers in the 2nd quarter to take a 52-41 lead at halftime.Indiana would then take a 66-49 lead in the 3rd quarter before the Raptors went on a 11-0 run that included 6 points and 2 assists by Toronto guard Jose Calderon to reduce the Pacers’ lead to 66-60. Indiana reserve guard Kareem Rush hit a 3-pointer and Pacers forward Mike Dunleavy made a basket to stretch Indiana’s lead to 71-60; the Pacers took into the 4th quarter a 75-69 advantage.
With 9 minutes left in the game, the Raptors took their first lead of the game, 81-80, on Kapono’s 3-pointer; both teams swapped leads until Calderon and Kapono made a 3-pointer each to give Toronto a 94-90 lead with 3 minutes to go. After Toronto forward Kris Humphries made 2 free throws, Kapono made yet another 3 with 1:41 left to give Toronto an insurmountable 99-90 lead.
Toronto was led by Kapono with 29 points, including six 3-pointers. Chris Bosh had a decent game, scoring 22 with 16 rebounds; Calderon chipped in with 18 and 16 assists, while Humphries had a solid game, scoring 17. Indiana was led by Dunleavy with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists; Jamaal Tinsley added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists, while Danny Granger chipped in with 15 and grabbing 9 boards. Toronto (14-10) returns home to host the Boston Celtics Sunday afternoon, while Indiana (11-12) travels south to take on the Miami Heat Saturday night.
