Wizards Want Wilks
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that The Washington Wizards are expected to sign free agent guard Mike Wilks to a contract, and hope to have him ready to play in their game Wednesday, as they take on the Chicago Bulls. The Wizards have been without star?guard Gilbert Arenas, since last month as he had surgery on his left knee. Last week they lost backup Antonio Daniels when he sprained his right knee. Wilks was waived back on November 28, by the?Denver Nuggets. ??Denver signed the free agent to a contract in late October, and he played coming off the bench in 8 games. Wilks played a little over 15 minutes per game, averaging 3 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. His shooting percentage was a bit over 43% from the field and 40% from outside the arc in his limited minutes. Wilks now in his sixth season in the NBA, has a lot of stops along the way. The former Rice guard started in the league in the 2002-2003 season, in which he debuted with the Atlanta Hawks but finished with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Wilks played in Houston the following year, and then spent the next season with the San Antonio Spurs. Wilks then started out playing for Cleveland in the 2005-2006 campaign but was traded to Seattle in a deal that brought the Cavaliers Flip Murray. Wilks also played last season in Seattle. He has averaged, 2.5 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 rebounds through his career.
