Dwyane Does It At The Buzzer Heat Burn Jazz 104-102
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Dwyane Wade scored 20 points Saturday night, but the 2 biggest by far were the two that came at the end of regulation, as that was the margin of victory as the Miami Heat slipped by the Utah Jazz 104-102. Miami at one time had a 16 point lead in the second half, allowed it to evaporate, as they got lazy, and the Jazz got busy.
Utah took the early lead as they had a 23-21 edge at the end of the first quarter, but Miami got hot in the second quarter scoring 29 points to take a 50-42 lead at the half. Miami had the lead up to 16 points in the third quarter, before the Jazz whittled it down to 11 at the end of the period the Heat ahead 74-63. That’s when C.J. Miles got busy, scoring 14 of his 20 points in the fourth to put Utah dead even as time evaporated. Wade took a 20 foot chance, it clanked off the rim before going through the hoop, giving Miami the win.
Wade shot 6-14 from the floor, 8-10 at the line for his team high 20 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal. Shaquille O’Neal had a double-double 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 1 steal, Daequan Cook scored 15 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, Earl Barron had a season high 13 points, (of course this was just his second game this season) 3 boards, 1 block. Barron should start to see a significant increase in playing time now that Miami has lost veteran center Alonzo Mourning for the remainder of the season. The third year center who is 7′ and 26 years old has been with the Heat since coming into the NBA, played only 8 games his first season, and just 28 games last season. His career averages going into Saturday were 2.2 points,1.5 rebounds per game but remember his minutes have been limited. Barron will have his make or break moment over the next few games, it’s up to him how he responds. Ricky Davis and Dorell Wright each scored 12 points in the win.
Jazz point guard Deron Williams shot 8-14 from the floor, and 6-9 at the line, as he had a game high 22 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. Andrei Kirilenko had another nice game for the Jazz, as he scored 21 points, 7 boards, 2 blocks, 1 assist, Miles hit 3-6 treys, as he scored 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists. Paul Millsap had another good game off the bench, 12 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal,, and Carlos Boozer had a double-double, 10 points, 10 boards, 3 assists in the loss. Miami is now 8-19, Utah is 15-14.
