Payton Thinks He’d Be Good Fit For Celtics
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Boston Globe reported Saturday that veteran free agent point guard?Gary Payton has expressed interest in becoming a member of the Boston?Celtics. According to the report, Payton watched as Detroit Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups scored 28 points on?Boston Wednesday night, en route to a 87-85 Pistons win. It was the first time Boston had been defeated at home this season. The report says that Payton then placed?a call to his agent Aaron Goodwin, and according to Goodwin said that he thought he could be a big help to the Celtics.
Payton became a free agent after the end of last season, he had played with the Miami Heat the last 2 years, and was part of their NBA Championship team. Payton had played for Boston before going to the Heat, and Celtics coach Doc Rivers enjoyed having him on the team. Rivers so far is happy with the job that Rajon Rondo has done this season, although Billups did take him to task, Wednesday night. Still Rondo who was looked at the weak link in the Boston starting five has been better than anticipated. Goodwin said that his client, would settle for the NBA minimum for a pro with 10 years or longer in the league ( about 1.2 million dollars) and would gladly come off the bench. Boston’s initial reaction seems to be we will get back to you. Goodwin did say that other teams? have expressed interest in Payton, but did not name the clubs, or the level of interest.
