Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Tony Parker scored a game high 28 points, and made it a rough first night for Chicago Bulls Interim Head Coach Pete Myers, as the San Antonio Spurs toyed with the Bulls Wednesday night, winning 94-79. Myers has taken over, at least temporarily, as Chicago’s bench boss, he was an assistant coach under Scott Skiles who was fired from the post on Christmas Eve. (Is there ever a good time to get fired?) San Antonio dominated the game even without sixth man Manu Ginobili, the guard has a sprained left index finger, and is listed as day to day.
Chicago got off to a quick start, and actually led the game at the end of the first quarter 22-21, but San Antonio got serious in the second quarter, as they led at the half 51-38. San Antonio never allowed the lead to slip to under double digits the entire second half, as they led 72-59 at the end of the third quarter.
Parker shot 12-19 from the floor, 1-2 from outside the arc, and 3-5 from the line for his 28 points, he had 5 assists, 3 rebounds. Michael Finley scored 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, Bruce Bowen stepped up big offensively scoring 12 points, 4 boards, 2 assists. The Spurs got two nice performances from their bench, Ime Odoka, scored 12 points, 2 steals, 1 rebound, and Matt Bonner also scored 12 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist. Tim Duncan scored just 8 points, but had 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal.
Chicago was led by veteran big man Joe Smith as the former number one?pick in the 1995 NBA Draft?had a double-double, 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists. Smith who was taken number one by the Golden State Warriors, shot 9-13 from the field, 1-2 from the line. Ben Gordon scored 18 points, 4 rebounds,?3 assists, Chris Duhon scored 13 points, 1 assist, Luol Deng had 12 points, 7 boards, 1 assist. San Antonio now has a record of 20-7, while Chicago is 9-17, after the loss.
