??????????????????????????????????????????? Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce drives to the basket past Seattle SuperSonics swingman Kevin Durant in the fourth quarter of their game, played Thursday night. Pierce scored 37 points, leading Boston to the win over Seattle 104-96.

The Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce proved tonight that if necessary, he can carry a team - if for one night.? Pierce, benefitting from extra attention being spent on Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, had a big game in leading the Celtics over the Seattle SuperSonics 104-96 Thursday at Key Arena.

The first half was nip-and-tuck, with neither team holding a big lead throughout; however, Seattle managed to hang with the Celtics and took the lead early in the second half.? A dunk by Seattle’s Chris Wilcox gave the Sonics a 48-47 lead and moments later, Kevin Durant’s 3-pointer gave Seattle a 51-50 lead.? Moments later, Durant would miss a 3-point attempt but Boston’s Ray Allen would make a trey as would Pierce, giving Boston a 59-53 lead.? The SuperSonics would not get any closer than 2 points for the rest of the contest.

Boston was led by Pierce who had a monster game, scoring 37 points - including five 3-pointers - 6 rebounds and 4 assists; Kevin Garnett added 23 and 14 rebounds, while Allen had a subpar night, scoring only 10 on 4-of-13 shooting.? Seattle’s leading scorer was Durant with 25 points, while Delonte West added 19 points, 4 boards and 8 assists; Wilcox chipped in with 13 and 8 rebounds in a workman-like effort. Boston (24-3) next travels to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz Saturday night, while Seattle (8-21) continues their homestand by hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves, also on Saturday night.
