It was only the second time this season that San Antonio has lost on their home court. The Spurs who played without sixth man Manu Ginobili were absolutely horrific from the floor shooting just 31.9 percent for the game, and having only one quarter where the total points they scored started with a crooked number.
The game as the final score indicates started out as a low scoring affair Toronto leading 19-16 after the first quarter, the Raptors though increased their lead by the half to 44-32. San Antonio made an effort to get back in the game in the third quarter, as the cut the Toronto lead by the end of the period to just 3 points, as the Raptors led 59-56. Tonight’s game between the Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors was not an exercise in false advertising; plenty of fast-break, fast-paced action was to be found as both coaches, Golden State’s Don Nelson and Denver’s George Karl, employ the same frenetic style.? Denver’s Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony orchestrated this track meet basketball game as they led the Nuggets to a 124-120 victory over the Warriors at Oracle Arena.
Denver got off to a fast start (see where this is going?), making 9 of their first 12 shots in building a 17-4 run that gave them an early 8-point lead.? Denver went crazy, scoring-wise, as they shot 60% in the first half, taking into halftime a 71-64 lead, with Anthony scoring 24 first-half points and Iverson adding 18 in the same half.? Golden State, who trailed by 11 earlier, tied it at 104 on Kelenna Azubuike’s putback on a miss less than 3 minutes into the 4th quarter.?
With the Nuggets’ lead?back up to 6 and less than 3 minutes to go in the game, the Warriors’ Baron Davis got his team back into it.? Golden State’s Andris Biedrins made?a layup, then Monta Ellis made a fast-break basket and then scored a basket inside, knotting the score at 118.? But Iverson would score a jumper for Denver to put the Nuggets ahead for good at 120-118 with 1:12 left.
Denver’s leading scorer was Iverson with 39 points and 6 assists, while Anthony added 30 with 8 rebounds. Marcus Camby and?Linas Kleiza pitched in 15 each; Camby also grabbed 16 boards.? The Sacramento Kings have issues.? Issues such as: sloppy play, evidenced by six consecutive games of 20 or more turnovers and injuries.? Sacramento were without the services of Ron Artest as he has a chipped bone in his right elbow; they are also without Mike Bibby and leading scorer Kevin Martin, who is out with?a strained groin and has missed the past 11 games.? Those factors, plus sloppy play yet again doomed the Kings as the Philadelphia pulled away in the fourth quarter to get past Sacramento 92-80 Friday at Arco Arena.
Inside play benefitted the Sizers the most as center Samuel Dalembert scored 14 points in the first half, enabling Philadelphia to hold a 50-45 lead.? Philadelphia scored 7 points to build a 7-point lead; the Sixers’ Andre Iguodala capped a Philadelphia 10-0 run with a dunk, a layup and a 3-pointer as the Sixers went up 88-73 and wouldn’t trail again.? Philadelphia was led by Dalembert with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.? Andre Miller added 18, while Iguodala contributed 16.
Sacramento’s leading scorer was John Salmons with 22 points, while Beno Udrih added 19 - including three 3-pointers - with 5 boards and 6 assists.? Brad Miller and Quincy Douby scored 10 apiece; Miller also grabbed 12 boards.? Philadelphia (13-16), winners of 3 in a row, hope ot continue their hot streak when they travel to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers Sunday; Sacramento (11-17) continues their homestand by hosting the Phoenix Suns - also on Sunday.

The Indiana Pacers just didn’t have a chance?Friday against the Detroit Pistons; hot shooting during the second and third quarters by Detroit was key as they easily disposed of the Pacers 114-101 at Detroit.? Oddly enough, one of the unsung heroes for the Pistons was forward Jarvis Hayes; Hayes, despite suffering from food poisoning, scored 13 second-quarter points.? That should’ve been a sign that Indiana was in trouble.
Detroit led 64-41 at halftime, and the only reason Indiana wasn’t routed then was due to Pacers forward Jermaine O’Neal scoring 12 points in the period.? But Pistons swingman Richard Hamilton’s13 points in the same period enabled Detroit to carry a substantial 93-70 lead into the fourth quarter; the Pacers never threatened from that time on as they played sloppily the rest of the way.
Detroit had 6 players in double-digits, led by Hamilton with 23 points and 9 assists on 10-of-17 shooting.? Tayshaun Prince pitched in with 15, while Chauncey Billups added 14 with 4 rebounds and 6 assists.? Indiana was led by O’Neal with 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting while grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists.? Troy Murphy added 12 and 5 boards.? Detroit (22-7) has a rematch with Indiana (15-15) - this time at Conseco Fieldhouse on Saturday night

Amare Stoudemire, and Steve Nash both had double-doubles, and the Phoenix Suns beat the Los Angeles Clippers for the second consecutive night 94-88. Los Angeles center?Chris Kaman also had a double-double for the Clippers, as Los Angeles played a competitive game for four quarters, despite being without a good number of their regular roster. The victory marked the first time this?season that Phoenix has won a game without scoring at least 100 points, it was also the first time that the Suns have won 2 games in a row, since December 7.
Phoenix certainly did not show the bounce in their step that they had on Thursday in Los Angeles. The Clippers were never really a threat in that game, as Phoenix ended up with a lopsided 108-88 win. But the toll of playing 3 games in just four nights, including Christmas was apparent on the Phoenix players.
The game started out looking much the same as the Thursday night contest, as the Suns led by 8 points after the first quarter 27-19, they had a 14 point lead during the second quarter, but the Clippers put on a run at the end of the quarter, cutting Phoenix lead to 51-47 at the half. Los Angeles actually took the lead twice by a point in the third quarter, but Phoenix still had a razor thin lead of 66-65 heading into the fourth.
Every time it looked like Phoenix was ready to take over, the Clippers climbed right back in. Los Angeles point guard Sam Cassell hit a trey to cut the Phoenix lead to 87-86, but that’s when Stoudemire took over. Amare scored a layup to make it 89-86 and then hit a “J” to put the Suns up 91-86.
Stoudemire shot 12-15 from the floor, 4-8 from the line, for his game high 28 points, he also had 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist. The Grant Hill Comeback Tour is still going well as the veteran scored 22 points, 8 assists, 3 blocks, 1 rebound. Shawn Marion scored 18 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal, 1 assist, and Steve Nash scored 10 points, had 10 assists, and grabbed 6 boards.
Kaman led the Clippers?as he shot 9-22 from the floor, 4-6 from the line, for a team high 22 points, an amazing 20 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist. Cassell scored?21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, Corey Maggette had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block. Cuttino Mobley also scored 13 for the Clippers, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, and veteran Brevin Knight scored 10 points off the bench, 4 boards, 3 steals, 1 block. Phoenix now has a record of 21-9, while the Clippers are now 9-19.

?????????????????????????????? ?
The New Orleans Hornets are silently sneaking up on opponents; their brand of basketball is responsible for their current winning streak.? Luckily for them, their opponent Friday was the Charlotte Bobcats.? The combination of timely shooting and a stifling defense enabled the Hornets to grab the win over the Bobcats 99-85 at Charlotte.
New Orleans got off to a good start, including some alley-oops in building a 23-10 lead while Hornets guard?Chris Paul pushed the ball up the floor at every opportunity.? The Bobcats tied a season low with 14 first-quarter points and fell behind 53-31 when Paul flew past Bobcats guard Raymond Felton and made a 3-point play with 6 seconds left in the half.? The Bobcats would go into the locker room at halftime down by 19 and the fans (they’re human - they’re not masochists) booed them off the floor.
After the Bobcats got to within 11, New Orleans’ David West scored 2 baskets and 2 free throws to end their spurt.? It was all New Orleans from that moment on.??West led all New Orleans scorers with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.? Paul and Tyson Chandler added 17 each, with Paul dishing out 11 assists; Chandler added 17 rebounds.?
Charlotte was led by Jason Richardson with 25 points; Nazr Mohammed added 15 and 14 rebounds, while Gerald Wallace pitched in with 14 with 4 assists and 3 steals.? New Orleans (19-10), winners of 4 straight, hope to continue their streak as they return home to host the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday night; Charlotte (10-17) flies to Florida to take on the Orlando Magic - also on Saturday night.
