Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Portland TrailBlazers guard Jarret Jack made a key basket and followed it up with one at the line, as Portland outlasted the Chicago Bulls Thursday night winning in double overtime 115-109. It was the 15th win for Portland in their last 16 games, Brandon Roy led the Blazers with a double-double 25 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block. The Bulls lost despite the fact that they had 2 players score over 30 points each, veteran starting forward Joe Smith had 31 points, while Ben Gordon who seems to have found his game again since coming in off the bench had a game high 32 points.
This game was back and forth all night as the two teams were tied 13 times, and the lead changed hands 16 times. Chicago had a razor thin 1 point lead at the end of the first quarter 21-20, but had increased the lead to 7 at the half 48-41. But Portland came out strong in the third quarter, and had the lead back down to just one point again as Portland led 70-69 going into the final quarter. Portland tied the game at the end of regulation at 88-88, and the two teams were still tied at the end of the first extra period 102-102. Both teams started out aggressively again as the second overtime began, but Chicago just seemed to run out of steam after the Jack three point play.
Roy shot 7-15 from the floor, 10-11 at the line for his team high 25 points, Travis Outlaw came off the bench and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist. Jack scored 17 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, LaMarcus Aldridge also had a double-double for Chicago, 14 points, 13 boards, 2 assists, 1 block. Steve Blake and Martell Webster had almost exactly the same line on the scorecard, both with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, Blake had 1 steal. Portland with the win improves to 20-13, while the Bulls are now 12-19.
