Riley To Resign As Heat Coach At End Of Season

The “South Florida Sentinel” reported Wednesday that Miami Heat President of Basketball Operations and head coach Pat Riley will leave his position on the bench at the end of the season. Previously Riley had committed to staying on as bench boss through the 2009-2010 campaign. The Heat who won the NBA Championship in 2006, is all of a sudden very quickly turned into a rebuilding project. Riley he can best serve the team by concentrating all of his efforts out of the front office. Riley believes that by doing both jobs with the team in the situation it is in that he is not either position justice, and said that it felt like the two positions were butting heads with each other. Riley had resigned earlier this decade as coach and handed over the reigns to Stan Van Gundy. But on the eve of the 2005-2006 campaign Riley was back at the helm, and took the team to the league Championship. Riley? started his coaching career in the 1980’s with the Los Angeles?Lakers where he first coached a team to a Championship, he then had a stint as head coach of the New York Knicks. Riley who is 62?is signed with the team through the 2009-2010 season.
