Late Ginoboli Spurt Pushes Spurs Past 76ers 89-82

For those of you who are either San Antonio Spurs fans or students of current NBA players, then you probably know that Spurs guard Manu Ginoboli is usually the sixth man off the bench - he has the hardware as being the best one in the NBA to prove it.? You also probably know that he can go on scoring streaks at any given time.? It just so happened that tonight was vintage Ginoboli; he scored 14 fourth-quarter points, leading the Spurs past the Philadelphia 76ers 89-82 Monday night.

Neither team shot especially well in the first half, yet an 11-1 run by San Antonio gave them a 47-35 lead with 4:38 left in the second quarter; the Spurs would hold on to a 52-46 lead at halftime.? The third quarter wouldn’t exactly find any offensive fireworks for Philadelphia, yet they somehow would do enough to take a 59-58 lead with 7:32 left in the third period, thanks to a free throw from swingman Andre Iguodala.? Iguodala’s jumper with 6:23 in the 3rd would allow the 76ers to take the lead again 61-60.

Philadelphia went up by as many as 5 points early in the fourth, but San Antonio managed to tie the game 3 times before Ginobili’s scoring helped the Spurs pull away for good.? San Antonio was led by Ginoboli with 20 points - including 4 three-pointers - along with 4 rebounds and 5 assists; Tim Duncan added a fine effort, scoring 18 with 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocked shots.? Tony Parker and Michael Finley each pitched in with 14 each - Parker also dished out 7 assists.

Philadelphia’s leading scorer was Willie Green with 21 points, while Iguodala added 19; Samuel Dalembert recorded a double-double, scoring 12 while grabbing 20 rebounds and blocking 3 shots.? San Antonio (25-11) continues their homestand by hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday night, while Philadelphia (14-24) continues their Texas road trip by travelling to Houston to face the Rockets Tuesday.
