New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury

The New York Knicks will be without the services of point guard Stephon Marbury as according to the Associated Press, he will have surgery on his left ankle Tuesday and is expected to be out indefinitely.  The surgery was decided upon after an MRI performed Thursday indicated that Marbury had inflammation around a “chronically fractured” bone spur.

On Wednesday, Marbury stated that he would try to return this season, regardless of where the Knicks are in the standings; incidentally, this isn’t the first time that he has had this surgery.  Marbury is easily having the worst year of his career, averaging a career-low 13.9 PPG; also factor in the death of his father on December 2 and the incident where he skipped a game in Phoenix after clashing with Knicks coach Isiah Thomas and it’s not hard to see that this is his most difficult campaign.  For the foreseeable future, expect Jamal Crawford to handle the point guard duties.
