As seriously as we take our professional sports in the USA there are moments that make us realize that it is after all “just a game.” Those times usually emerge during times of crisis, such as when the health of a player is threatened. One of those moments occurred on Monday when Denver Nuggets power forward Nene had a tumor removed from his right testicle. The tumor was biopsied to see if it was  cancerous, Thursday the results turned out to be good news, as the tumor was found to be cancer free.

A statement released on the website of the 25 year old Brazilian native said that the doctors who removed the growth in a Denver hospital received back the results, and the tumor was benign. The tumor was first discovered last week when the Nuggets team doctor Saurabh Mangalik during an examination. Tuesday Nene released the following statement through the team “I want to thank my fans, my teammates, the Nuggets organization and everyone that’s been supporting me. My victory will represent their victory as well. Thanks for being with me in this moment. I will remember all the appreciation. I thank God that we could detect this at such an early stage.” Nene took an indefinite leave of absence from the Nuggets last Friday, there is no word yet when he is expected to return.
