Szczerbiak Trade Bait?

??????????????????????????????????Seattle SuperSonics swingman Wally Szczerbiak?

The Seattle SuperSonics are looking to unload some hefty contracts; the name that is coming up the most from their roster is - big surprise….NOT - Wally Szczerbiak.? He, along with guards Luke Ridenour and Earl Watson, have been linked to trade rumors for some time and will probably remain so until the February 21 trading deadline, if not before then.

There may be an obstacle in attempting to trade Szcerbiak and/or Watson - their salaries.? Szcerbiak is due $15 million during the next 2 seasons; Watson has a contract through 2010.? Watson makes $5.8 million this season, $6.2 million next season and $6.6 million the season after that.? According to Szcerbiak, trade rumors are nothing new to him and being traded to Miami and playing with Shaq and Dwyane Wade - “there’s a lot worse places to play.”? Ouch.

In any case, there’s a slim window of time available if Seattle wants to unload some fat contracts and continue their rebuilding mode.? Wally and Watson make identical money, but my guess is that Szcerbiak’s going to be harder to trade not so much because of his salary as opposed to the type of player he is and finding a team that needs a shooter with no appreciable defensive skills - one-dimensional, if you will.
