Yao And Rockets Squeak By Duncan and Spurs 83-81

Yao Ming recorded a double-double, 21 points, 14 rebounds, as the Houston Rockets held on at the end for an 83-81 victory over the San Antonio Spurs Saturday night 83-81. It was the Spurs second straight loss, and they have gone 2-4 in their last six games. Tim Duncan also recorded a? double-double for the Spurs, 24 points, 17 rebounds, but it was not enough to get past the Rockets.

San Antonio had a razor thin lead at the end of the first period 21-20, Houston had the advantage at the half 45-39. The Spurs were able to cut the lead down to just 2 points heading into the final period 61-59, and the game was undecided until the final seconds. Yao put the Rockets up 82-81 with 2:24 left in the game, Rafer Alston hit 1 at the line, with 2.4 seconds remaining to make it 83-81 Houston, and Matt Bonner threw up a prayer at the buzzer that missed the mark.

Yao shot 7-10 from the floor, and 7-10 from the line for his 21 points, along with his 14 rebounds, he had 3 assists, 2 blocks. Alston scored 16 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, Tracy McGrady was back playing after missing the last 11 games with a balky left knee, played coming in off the bench, scoring 9 points, 4 assists, 4 boards, 1 block.

Duncan shot 10-21 from the floor, 4-9 at the line, for his game high 24 points, along with his 17 rebounds, he had 2 blocks, 1 assist. Manu Ginobili scored 21 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, Tony Parker scored 16 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds. Houston is now 21-19, San Antonio is 25-13.
