One man does not make a team, if that were the case the late great Wilt Chamberlain would have had 11 championship rings, instead of his nemesis/friend Bill Russell. But as Chamberlain found out as great and as dominant as he could be, it takes five players to win the title. Dwyane Wade unfortunately learned that lesson Monday night as he scored 42 points for the Miami Heat only to see his team lose 97-90 to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Miami has now reached a new level of horrible as they have dropped their fourteenth consecutive game. D-Wade scored the last 18 points in the game?for the Heat and 32 points in the second half both feats setting team records.
Miami led at the end of the first quarter 28-27, and had a 52-49 margin at the half. But other than Wade the Heat went dry from the floor as Cleveland gained the lead?in the third quarter, and had a 72-70 lead going into the final quarter. D-Wade hit a trey with just over 30 seconds left in regulation, to bring Miami to within 4 points of the Cavaliers at 92-88. But Cleveland’s LeBron James hit a pair at the line putting Miami away. The Heat other than Wade shot 3-21 from the floor for a total of 6 points, in the second half.
LBJ led Cleveland as he shot 11-26 from the floor, including 1 trey, and a perfect 5-5 at the line, for a team high 28 points, 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 1 block. Center Zydrunas Ilgauskas recorded a double-double, 13 points, 11 boards, 1 block, Drew Gooden scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1?block, 1 assist, 1 steal. Sasha Pavlovic scored 10 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, Damon Jones scored 10 points coming off the bench, 1 assist, 1 rebound.
Wade shot 17-29 from the floor, 1-3 from outside the arc, 7-9 from the?line for his 42 points, ?7 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block. Shaquille O’Neal was the only other Miami player who would score in double figures as he had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist. Udonis Haslem only scored 9 points for Miami, but led all players with 13 rebounds,?3 assists. Cleveland has come on strong so far in 2008, as they have started the month 8-1, and now are at 22-18, Miami is? 8-33.
