Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis, right, celebrates with teammates, from left, Hedo Turkoglu (15), Maurice Evans and James Augustine, after making the winning shot to beat the Detroit Pistons 102-100 Monday.

On most nights during a tight contest, you’d expect Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard to be the hero more often than not - maybe on occasion forward Hedo Turkoglu.  But tonight’s hero for the Magic was Rashard Lewis; Lewis’ jumper as time expired propelled the Magic to the narrow victory over the Detroit Pistons 102-100 Monday night at Orlando.

The first-half was nip-and-tuck in the first half, despite Orlando being a bit lethargic; however, the Magic would start an 11-4 run to take a 55-49 lead into halftime.  Oddly enough, Detroit would commit 10 first-half turnovers, but they would record only 1 in the second half.  Fast forwarding to the fourth quarter, Detroit’s Chauncey Billups nearly forced the game into overtime with a 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds left.  But Orlando’s Lewis took the inbound pass from Turkoglu, dribbled then threw up the winning shot as time expired; a replay confirmed the basket.

Orlando was led by Turkoglu with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists; Howard added 23 with 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, while Lewis chipped in with 16.  Detroit was led by Richard Hamilton with a quiet 21 points, including 3 treys; Tayshaun Prince scored 20, while Billups added 18 and 5 assists.  Rasheed Wallace chipped in 15 while grabbing 15 rebounds and nabbing 5 steals.  Orlando (26-17) flies to Tennessee to take on the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday, while Detroit (29-13) travels to Philadelphia to face the 76ers - also on Wednesday.
