ESPN.com reported Monday that veteran free agent Chris Webber’s negotiations with the Golden State Warriors are on the fast track and he could sign a pact with the team as early as?Tuesday. The report names?our old friends “Unnamed sources close to the deal” as saying that the Warriors, seem to have the inside track to be the?team that Webber ends up signing with. Webber had said a while back that if he came back to the Association, it would most likely be with the Detroit Pistons, the team he played for last season. The report states that Webber would play for a pro-rated share of the NBA minimum for veteran players 1.2 million dollars. It also says that talks between Webber? and the L.A. Lakers broke down, because the team wanted to sign Webber to?two 10 days contracts, rather than commit to him for the whole season. Webber played his first season and a half with the Warriors, but a personality conflict between he and coach Don Nelson?forced Golden State to trade him to the Washington Wizards. Nelson who?was fired not long after, is back as bench boss for the Warriors. He says he and Webber long ago settled their differences, and he would love for the team to sign him.

Maybe the only stranger scenario than this, would be if Seattle SuperSonics coach P.J. Carlesimo hired Latrell Sprewell as one of?his assistant coaches! According the Associated Press Sunday, Golden State head coach Don Nelson wants to reunite with former Warrior Chris Webber for the rest of the campaign. Webber who has not played a game?this season, and is an unrestricted is eligible to play for any team without a team being penalized. The ironic thing about this proposal, is that Webber started his career with the Warriors. However Webber and Nellie got into a personality conflict,?Webber wanted out of Golden State,?was traded to Washington, the Warriors started spiraling downward, Nelson was released not?long after that.?Nelson said that he thinks Webber would be that missing piece the team needs to take themselves to the next level. An answer should be known by the end of the week whether the two sides can come to?terms.

Martin Sinks Buzzer-Beater, Kings Send SuperSonics To 14th Straight Loss 103-101

?????????????????????????????????????
The Seattle SuperSonics played one of their better games of the year Sunday against the Sacramento Kings; however, it took a buzzer-beater by the Kings’ Kevin Martin to send the SuperSonics to their 14th straight defeat, 103-101 at Key Arena.
The first half for both teams was back and forth, with neither team being able to pull away at all; Sacramento would go into halftime with a slim 54-48 lead; despite that, Seattle would remain competitive.? The Sonics would take their first lead of the night at 77-76 on Wally Szczerbiak’s jumper with 10:36 left.? Sacramento’s Francisco Garcia gave the Kings the lead back with a long jumper, while Beno Udrih added a trey and Ron Artest made 2 free throws, capping a 7-0 Kings run.
Seattle’s Kevin Durant made a free throw to pull the Sonics even again at 91, but Artest rattled in an 8-foot jumper and after a Seattle turnover, Martin made a 3-pointer to put the Kings up 96-91 with 1:49 left to go.? The Kings’ Mike Bibby would add a jumper to increase their lead to 7; but the Sonics’ Earl Watson drained a 3 and Kurt Thomas made 2 free throws with 43 seconds left to put Seattle to within 98-96.? After Seattle pulled even at 101?on a 3-pointer by Damien Wilkins with 6.1 seconds left, the Kings, instead of calling their last timeout, opted to give the ball to Martin.? Martin would run almost the length of the court, swishing a 20-footer at the buzzer to give Sacramento the win.
Sacramento had 7 players in double-digits, led by Martin with 26 points, while Bibby and Brad Miller scored 13 each - Bibby dished out 6 assists while Miller grabbed 12 rebounds.? Seattle was led by Durant with 19 points, despite going only 5-of-20; Durant also had 3 steals.? Szczerbiak scored 16 from off the bench, while Thomas recorded a double-double, adding 15 and 10 boards.? Sacramento (19-24) returns to Arco Arena to host the Charlotte Bobcats Wednesday, while Seattle (9-35) continues their homestand to host the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

???????????????????????????????
?
The Golden State Warriors, in the vast majority of their games, tend to have a height disadvantage; as a result, they tend to play the fast-paced game, with a sprinkling of 3-pointers.? Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks was no different.? But the 3-point shot would prove to be the difference as Golden State’s Stephen Jackson drained 3 treys in the fourth quarter, enabling the Warriors to hold off a pesky Knicks squad with a tight 106-104 win at Oracle Arena.
Golden?State benefitted early because the Knicks’ Eddy Curry got into very early foul trouble, being whistled for 2 in the?first quarter.? As one would expect, both teams used smaller lineups; after a slow start, Golden State scored 14 straight points late in the first quarter - including 6 by Baron Davis - to take a 29-18 lead.? The Knicks used their height advantage in the second quarter, outrebounding Golden State 17-7 and scoring 13 second-chance points as a result.? A layup in the final seconds by New York’s Jamal Crawford gave the Knicks a 52-47 halftime edge.
The Warriors, who usually make a decent percentage of their 3-point attempts, missed 17 of their first 19 three-point attempts before Davis made his first trey of the game to cap a 10-2 run to knot the game at 71.? Davis would hit an even longer 3, cutting the Knicks’ lead to 79-76 heading into the fourth quarter.? Stephen Jackson would hit 3 treys, all of them part of a 17-5 Warriors run that would give them a 95-87 lead.? New York reduced the lead to?5 on a 3-pointer by Quentin Richardson with just over 2 minutes to go in the game, but the Warriors’ Davis hit a long jumper to get their lead back to 7 with 1:29 to go.? But Jackson hit 3 free throws in the final minute to seal the deal for Golden State.
New York’s leading scorer was Nate Robinson from off the bench with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists, while Crawford scored 21 with 5 boards and 5 assists.? Curry added 17, while Richardson chipped in with 14 with 7 rebounds and 4 assists.? Golden State’s leading scorer was Jackson with 25 points, including 4 three-pointers; Monta Ellis scored 24 with 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while Davis added 22 along with 9 assists.? Andris Biedrins, while only scoring 11, grabbed a NBA season-high 26 rebounds.? New York (14-29) now travels south to Los Angeles to face the Lakers at Staples Center on Tuesday night, while Golden State (27-18) flies to Texas to challenge the Houston Rockets - also on Tuesday.
