Warriors Dial Long Distance Late, Hold Off Knicks 106-104

??????????????????????????????? Golden State Warriors forward Stephen Jackson looks to the fans after scoring a basket against the New York Knicks during the first half of their game, played Sunday night. Golden State beat New York 106-104.?

The Golden State Warriors, in the vast majority of their games, tend to have a height disadvantage; as a result, they tend to play the fast-paced game, with a sprinkling of 3-pointers.? Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks was no different.? But the 3-point shot would prove to be the difference as Golden State’s Stephen Jackson drained 3 treys in the fourth quarter, enabling the Warriors to hold off a pesky Knicks squad with a tight 106-104 win at Oracle Arena.

Golden?State benefitted early because the Knicks’ Eddy Curry got into very early foul trouble, being whistled for 2 in the?first quarter.? As one would expect, both teams used smaller lineups; after a slow start, Golden State scored 14 straight points late in the first quarter – including 6 by Baron Davis – to take a 29-18 lead.? The Knicks used their height advantage in the second quarter, outrebounding Golden State 17-7 and scoring 13 second-chance points as a result.? A layup in the final seconds by New York’s Jamal Crawford gave the Knicks a 52-47 halftime edge.

The Warriors, who usually make a decent percentage of their 3-point attempts, missed 17 of their first 19 three-point attempts before Davis made his first trey of the game to cap a 10-2 run to knot the game at 71.? Davis would hit an even longer 3, cutting the Knicks’ lead to 79-76 heading into the fourth quarter.? Stephen Jackson would hit 3 treys, all of them part of a 17-5 Warriors run that would give them a 95-87 lead.? New York reduced the lead to?5 on a 3-pointer by Quentin Richardson with just over 2 minutes to go in the game, but the Warriors’ Davis hit a long jumper to get their lead back to 7 with 1:29 to go.? But Jackson hit 3 free throws in the final minute to seal the deal for Golden State.

New York’s leading scorer was Nate Robinson from off the bench with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists, while Crawford scored 21 with 5 boards and 5 assists.? Curry added 17, while Richardson chipped in with 14 with 7 rebounds and 4 assists.? Golden State’s leading scorer was Jackson with 25 points, including 4 three-pointers; Monta Ellis scored 24 with 8 rebounds and 4 assists, while Davis added 22 along with 9 assists.? Andris Biedrins, while only scoring 11, grabbed a NBA season-high 26 rebounds.? New York (14-29) now travels south to Los Angeles to face the Lakers at Staples Center on Tuesday night, while Golden State (27-18) flies to Texas to challenge the Houston Rockets – also on Tuesday.
