Hornets Swarm Jazz 110-98

Basketball is a game of scoring spurts and that was never more evident than in New Orleans on Friday night.? The New Orleans Hornets used a dominating 23-0 first quarter run to jump out to a 28-13 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Utah Jazz 110-98 at New Orleans arena.
? The Hornets (39-18) made ten consecutive field goals and scored 14 points off of nine Utah first quarter turnovers as they led by as much as 27 points in front of their home crowd.? Chris Paul had 19 points and 7 assists in the first half as he debuted his new Jordan Brand CP3 shoe and went toe-to-toe against Utah ?s own young, dynamic point guard, Deron Williams. Utah (37-22) made a spirited comeback as they cut New Orleans? prolific lead to 13 points at halftime and eight points after the third quarter. Utah went on a 9-0 run at the end of the second quarter and made up five more points in the third quarter, but the Hornets closed out the fourth quarter in impressive fashion to keep pace in the competitive Western Conference.After a New Orleans timeout with 5:50 remaining in the fourth quarter, Jannero Pargo made three consecutive baskets, including a three, to extend a seven-point Hornets lead back into double-digits. Pargo added another three-pointer for good measure and the raucous New Orleans crowd had reason to celebrate.
Paul finished with 24 points, 16 assists, five steals and only turnover while David West poured in 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Hornets.
Williams, Paul?s point guard rival, finished with 22 points and ten assists for Utah . Mehmet Okur added 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz.

LeBron James decided to give it a go at game time, despite spraining his right ankle?Wednesday night when?Cleveland lost to the Boston Celtics, and the ankle seemed to hold up quite well as he recorded a double-double leading the Cavaliers Friday night to a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves 92-84. LBJ led four Cleveland starters?in double figures in the victory.
The T-Wolves played themselves a good game, they were able to stand toe to toe with Cleveland for most of the contest. the two teams were knotted up at 20-20 at the end of the first quarter, the Cavaliers had pushed their lead in the second quarter to 8 points, several times the last time being at 40-32, when James hit a 10 foot “J”. But the?Wolves scored 4 points at the end of the period, and they were down only 40-36 when the game reached the half. Cleveland went ahead early in the third period, but Minnesota stormed back as Sebastian Telfair hit a 25 foot trey with 5:22 left in the quarter to put the Timberwolves up 54-53. That however would be their last lead of the game as the Cavaliers went on a 13-5 run to close out the quarter with a 66-59 lead. Minnesota fell behind early once again in the fourth but pulled within four points as Craig Smith hit a layup with 4:43 left in the game to put the score at 79-75. But the T-Wolves simply ran out of gas, and that was the last time they threatened.
James scored 30 points, 13 assists, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, in the victory. Devin Brown scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, Delonte West scored 12 points,?5 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal. Damon Jones scored 11 points as he came off the bench, 1 assist, Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 10 points, 6 boards, 4 blocks, 1 assist.
Al Jefferson recorded a double-double for the T-Wolves as he scored 22 points, he grabbed 10 boards, 2 assists, 1 block. Corey Brewer scored 15? points, 4?steals, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, Ryan Gomes scored 13 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block. Sebastian Telfair scored 11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, Rodney McCants also scored 11 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 block. Cleveland after the win improves to 33-26, Minnesota is 12-45.

Woodson Safe As Hawks Coach; For Now

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday night that Atlanta Hawks General Manager Billy Knight has tried to talk team owners into allowing him to fire head coach Mike Woodson on three different occasions this season, the last time shortly after the Hawks acquired point guard Mike Bibby. The report says though that Woodson apparently will at least be given the chance to finish out the season. Atlanta who has not participated in the NBA Post Season since 1999 are currently trailing the Philadelphia 76ers by a game and a half for the last playoff slot going into Friday night’s action. Woodson told reporters that right now he is the coach of the Hawks, and he will not allow what is being written in the newspapers to effect him. Atlanta after defeating the New York Knicks?Friday night is now 24-32 .

NBA Suspends Granger For One Game

The NBA announced Friday that they have suspended Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger for one game without pay. Granger whacked Chicago Bulls Andres Nocioni in the face Wednesday night when the two teams played each other. The Bulls won the contest 113-107. Granger will sit out Friday night’s game versus the Toronto Raptors.

Seattle Signs Mike Wilks To 10 Day Contract

The Seattle SuperSonics announced Friday that they were bringing back a familiar face for another look. The Sonics have signed former Seattle guard Mike Wilks to a ten day contract. Wilks had played for the Sonics in the 2005-2006, and 2006-2007 campaigns. This season Wilks played in 8 games for the Denver Nuggets, and 4 games for the Washington Wizards. Wilks will fill the roster spot made available, when the team waived veteran guard Ira Newble earlier in the day.
