Gasol Now A Laker

?????????????????????????????????? Los Angeles Lakers center/forward Pau Gasol

The trade rumors that were surrounding Pau Gasol are no more; according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal on Friday, the Memphis Grizzlies have traded the 7-footer to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010.? Gasol?has been the subject of trade rumors for several seasons; according to the Appeal, the Grizzlies decided to move Gasol after deciding that they could no longer move forward with him on?and off the court.

In dealing Gasol, the Grizzlies - who is owed nearly $50 million over the next three years - will give the team some much needed salary cap relief.? Gasol - at least to me - seems like a great fit in Los Angeles, especially since center Andrew Bynum is out for awhile with a knee injury.? He also will provide some more offense to complement Kobe Bryant; he also provides some versatility, especially once Bynum returns as he can also play power forward.

Brown has pretty much been a disappointment during his career ever since the Washington Wizards made him their first overall pick in 2001; he was going through a third unproductive season with the Lakers, averaging 5.7 PPG and 5.7 RPG during that stretch.? For his career, Brown is averaging 7.6 PPG and 5.7 RPG in 389 games.? Crittenton, picked 19th overall by the Lakers in June’s draft, would be another young player for the Grizzlies to possibly build around; Crittenton, in limited playing time, is averaging 3.3 PPG.
