The NBA announced Friday that Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was named the NBA Player Of The Month for January 2008. Houston Rockets center Yao Ming was named as the representative from the Western Conference. LBJ led the Association in scoring for the first month of 2008, averaging 32.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.2 assists.?James set a record on January 11, as he became the only player? in the history of the Association to score 31 points, 19 boards, 8 assists, 4 blocks, and 3 steals in the same game. He accomplished the feat?against the Charlotte Bobcats. He also scored a season high 51 points,?9 assists, and 8 rebounds, against the Memphis Grizzlies?on January 15, the last player in NBA history to?combine 50 or more points, with 9 assists, and 8 boards was Rick?Barry in 1978. Cleveland went 11-3 during the month.

Yao helped his team go 10-4 during the month as he averaged 22.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, for the month. He had five consecutive games recording a? double-double, from January 19-29. Yao scored 36? points, and grabbed 19 boards on January 29 against the Golden State Warriors. Both players have been named starters for the NBA? All-Star game which will be held in New Orleans on February 17.
