The Memphis Grizzlies, one game after the loss of Pau Gasol, are a team in transition.? A revamped lineup for certain, and for at least this game, they only had 9 players in uniform.? The Utah Jazz took advantage of the Grizzlies’ shortcomings, having 6 players scoring in double-digits and left FedEx Forum with a 110-91 win Saturday.
As one would expect with a made-over team, there were turnovers; in the Grizzlies’ case, lots of them - 23 to be exact.? They got off to a sloppy start by committing 4 turnovers in 2 minutes’ time, giving Utah an early lead; the Jazz went into the break, leading 53-40.? Memphis shrunk a 15-point deficit to 7 in the third period before the Jazz answered with 12 straight points, starting a 20-3 run that built the margin to 83-59 entering the fourth quarter.? From that point on, it was all Utah.
Utah had 6 players in double digits, led by Carlos Boozer with 19 points, 10 rebounds, a pair of steals and a blocked shot.? Deron Williams and Ronnie Brewer scored 16 apiece, with Williams dishing out 11 assists; Mehmet Okur added 15 and 13 rebounds.? Memphis was led by Rudy Gay with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists?and a steal; Mike Miller and Hakim Warrick added?14 apiece.? Utah (30-18) returns home to host the New Orleans Hornets Monday, while Memphis (13-34) continues their homestand by hosting?the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.?
