Rarely do you see the Dallas Mavericks have a poor shooting night; against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, poor may be an understatement.? Dallas shot a horrible 30.3% from the field, but the Pistons only shot 43.4% yet it was good enough to beat the Mavericks 90-67 at the Palace at Auburn Hills.
Even though Dallas had a terrible start, the Pistons led just 20-14 after one quarter and 44-38 at halftime - a testimonial to the poor shooting by both sides.? Dallas missed 16 straight shots during an 8-minute stretch spanning 8 1/2 minutes in the first and second quarters.? While Detroit’s Rasheed Wallace scored 7 and Dallas’ Dirk Nowitski was scoreless in the third quarter, the Pistons took control by outscoring the Mavericks 22-13 in the period, holding on to a 66-51 lead going into the fourth quarter.? It would be a lead the Pistons would not give up.
Detroit’s high scorer was Wallace with 21 points, 9 rebounds, a steal and 4 blocked shots.? Tayshaun Prince added 16 with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, a stealand a blocked shot.? Dallas was led by Josh Howard and Nowitski with 15 points - Howard also grabbed 9 rebounds, while Nowitski grabbed 10 boards and dishing out 2 assists.? Reserve Brandon Bass added 14 in a losing effort for the Mavericks.? Detroit (34-13) continues their homestand by hosting the Miami Heat Wednesday, while Dallas (31-15) continues to Florida to take on the Orlando Magic on Monday.
