For the second straight game, the Orlando Magic started out slow; however, against the New Jersey Nets, the Magic were able to overcome that minor issue as they picked up steam as the game progressed.? As a result, they departed Amway Center with a 100-84 thrashing of the Nets Wednesday night.? The win also avenged the Magic’s loss to the Nets last month.
As previously mentioned, Orlando dug itself into a hole, a double-digit one at that; the Nets took a 15-4 lead within 6 minutes, capped by a dunk plus a free throw by Vince Carter.? Orlando coach Stan Van?Gundy?then proceeded to bring in the reserves; it worked well, as Keyon Dooling and Brian Cook led the Magic on an 18-7 run to tie the game at 22.? Cook scored 11 during the run, while?Dooling added 7.? New Jersey pushed the lead back to 8 when the Magic failed to score during the first 4:20 of the second quarter.?
But Orlando forcefully took the lead back during the second period, as Dwight?Howard had back-to-back dunks then Rashard Lewis made consecutive 3-pointers.? The Magic, after Hedo Turkoglu’s trey, led 35-32 and never gave up the lead again.? Orlando had 6 players in double-digits, led by Howard with 21 points, 13 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots; Lewis and Turkoglu scored 19 apiece - Lewis drained 4 three-pointers and Turkoglu made 3 treys, while a trio of Magic players - Jameer Nelson, Cook and Dooling?- each chipped in with 11 each.
New Jersey was led by Vince Carter with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal; Jason Kidd and reserve Bostjan Nachbar scored 13 apiece, with Kidd also grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists.? Orlando (32-19) continues their homestand by hosting the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night, while New Jersey (20-29) travels north to North Carolina to face the Charlotte Bobcats - also on Friday.
