Paul & Peja Help Hornets Sting Suns In Double O/T 132-130

Chris Paul scored a game high 42 points, and Peja Stojakovic hit a shot at the buzzer of the second overtime as the New Orleans Hornets got past a short handed Phoenix Suns team Wednesday 132-130. Phoenix had traded?forward Shawn Marion, and guard Marcus Banks to the Miami Heat earlier in the day for center Shaquille O’Neal. Although?O’Neal was with the team he watched the game from a suite, rather than the bench. O’Neal has been out since January 21, with a bruised left hip. He injured himself back on December 22, Wednesday but there has been no word when he will be activated. The Suns are supposed to hold a press conference Thursday.
New Orleans took a 30-27 advantage at the end of the first quarter, and?led 63-55 as the?two teams went to their respective lockers at the half. ?The Suns were able to cut 3 points off the deficit at the end of the third quarter as the Hornets led 87-82, Phoenix tied the game at 102-102 as Steve Nash hit a trey with 4:09 remaining in regulation. The game went back and forth over the remaining few minutes?the Suns went ahead 109-106 on another three point shot by Nash.?But the game was knotted at 111-111 at the end of regulation. Neither team could pull ahead by more than 2 points in the first overtime, which ended deadlocked at 124-124, but Stojakovic finally won the contest as he hit the “J” at the buzzer in the second O/T to grab the victory.
Paul scored 42 points, 9 assists, 8 steals,5 rebounds, as he played 50 minutes for the Hornets. Stojakovic scored 26 points, 6 rebounds 1 steal, Jannero Pargo came off the bench and scored 22 points, 4 rebounds. David West recorded a double-double 21 points, 13 boards, 2 blocks, 2 steals.
Nash registered a double-double for Phoenix, scoring 32 points, 12 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal. Amare Stoudemire became the newest member of the 20-20 club scoring 26 points, grabbing 20 boards, 4 blocks, 3 assists, Boris Diaw scored 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block. Leandro Barbosa also scored 22 points off the bench, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and Raja Bell scored 11 points, 5 rebounds. New Orleans is now 33-15, Phoenix is 34-15.
