Rondo To The Rescue As Celtics Over Turn Clippers 111-100

Rajon Rondo scored a career high 24 points, Wednesday as the Boston Celtics bounced back from their loss against Cleveland Tuesday to take out the Los Angeles Clippers 111-100. The Celtics won without All-Star forward Kevin Garnett in the lineup for a fifth strain game as he is still recovering from a strained abdominal muscle. Rondo had to recover from an injury himself during the game as he was whacked in the nose by the Clippers point guard Sam Cassell.
If there are any positives about Boston being?without the “Big Ticket” for the last five games, it is seeing some players other than the “Elite Three” stepping up. Last week reserve forward Leon Powe scored 31 points, in a Boston win, Wednesday was Rondo’s turn.?Rondo was the victim of a flagrant foul by Cassell?late in the second quarter when Rondo while driving to the basket was struck by Cassell, causing the Clippers guard to be ejected from the game. Even though Rondo’s nose was bleeding he remained in the game and was the Celtics leading scorer.
Clippers led the contest after the first quarter as they had a 29-25 lead, but?Boston took the upper hand leading 59-48 as the?first half ended. Los Angeles put on a strong surge late in the third quarter, as they cut the Boston advantage to just 3 points 84-81 at the end of the third quarter. But the Celtics scored the first six points in the final period to increase their lead to 90-81, and the Clippers could never quite get close enough again.
Rondo shot 10-13 from the floor, 4-7 from the line for 24 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 steals. Ray Allen scored 19 points,?5 rebounds, 2 assists, Tony Allen scored 17 points coming off the bench, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal. Paul Pierce scored 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1? block, and Leon Powe recorded a double-double, 13 points,10 boards, as he came off the bench.
Corey Maggette was back in the Clippers lineup after a bout with the flu, scored a game high 33 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists. Cuttino Mobley came off the bench for L.A. scoring 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, Chris Kaman also recovered from the flu scored 12 points, 9 boards, 6 blocks, 3 assists, 2 steals. Cassell scored 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, Quinton Ross scored 10 points as well, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 block. Boston now has a NBA best record of 37-9, the Clippers are 15-31.
