Zeke Say Marbury Era In New York Is Now Over
Filed Under Main | Leave a Comment

The “New York Post” reported Friday that New York Knicks coach and?Head of Basketball Operations?Isiah Thomas told media members on Thursday, that the Stephon Marbury era is over in New York. Thomas told the media that New York would be looking for a new point guard next season. This?has been a nightmare of?a?NBA campaign for Marbury, he?verbally fought ?with Thomas, left the team for a night, came back and was put on the bench for a couple of games. Marbury then lost his father in December, he took off?quite a few games coning to grips with it. When he returned his ankle started to bother him. He then had surgery to remove the bone?chips that were causing the pain, he is probably out for the rest of the season. Thomas said he would like to have a point guard added to the team before the trade deadline, but to get one of any caliber, they will probably?have to wait until the off-season. Zeke could be gone from both positions by the off-season.

The “New York Daily News” reported Friday that Indiana Pacers’ big man Jermaine O’Neal told reporters that the Pacers have been in?contact with many teams about possibly trading their veteran big man before the NBA?trade deadline?February 21. O’Neal told reporters after Indiana defeated New York Wednesday night, that he would welcome a trade to the Knicks.?It is well known that Jermaine is a huge Isiah Thomas fan. There has long been speculation that O’Neal holds deep resentment towards the Pacers franchise for Bird terminating the contract of former coach Isiah Thomas, shortly after O’Neal inked a new pact with the team. O’Neal has always had great admiration and respect for Zeke, and credits him for turning the young O’Neal’s career around.?
One of the names of possible players that O’Neal could be traded for is Zach Randolph. Apparently the forward who came to the Knicks in a trade on the night of last year’s NBA Draft has already worn out his welcome in the Big Apple. There were reports that Thomas was trying to shop Thomas over a month ago.

With the buyout of the contract of guard Damon Stoudamire, and then the trades of Pau Gasol To Los Angeles, and Stromile Swift to New Jersey, lots of changes have been going on during the last couple of weeks for the the Memphis Grizzlies. One remaining member of the nucleus is forward Mike Miller, who knows his days as a Grizzlie could be coming to and end between now and February 21, the Association trade deadline.
The Memphis “Commercial-Appeal” reported on Friday that Miller says he is not the least bit concerned and he is not allowing it to effect his play on the court. Miller who was traded earlier in his career from the Orlando Magic to the Grizzlies says he knows the NBA is a business, and he will give his best where ever he is. Memphis General Manager Chris Wallace, told the paper, that although he is not actively trying to trade Miller, he has leveled with the player that he would not be adverse to making any deals to make his team better. Miller who will turn 27 on February 19, was traded to Memphis in the middle of the 2002-2003 campaign.

The “Minneapolis Star Tribune” reported Thursday that Mark Bartelstein the agent for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Antoine Walker would not mind if the team decides to trade him to another team. Bartelstein says that it is not that Walker is unhappy there, he likes the coaches, his teammates, and management. But Walker and he feel that the veteran may be best suited elsewhere. Walker was traded on the eve of the regular season to Minnesota from the Miami Heat. Heat coach Pat Riley had been making disparaging remarks about Antoine not being in playing shape during training camp so it was no that big a shock when he was moved. Minnesota right now is at the ground floor of rebuilding, Walker is 31 years old in his twelfth season in the Association, not really a perfect match. T-Wolves General Manager Kevin McHale told the paper that the team is not looking to move any players before the trade deadline.

Despite the fact that the Chicago Bulls were undermanned - only 8 players were in uniform - with the absence of Ben Gordon (sprained right wrist), Luol Deng (Achilles heel) and Kirk Hinrich (bruised ribs), Chris Duhon stepped in and had a career game of 34 points, leading the Bulls to a 114-108 win over the Golden State Warriors Thursday at Oracle Arena.
The first half was one of peaks and valleys for the Bulls, while the Warriors struggled to find their shooting touch - the first quarter being the peak and the second quarter the valley for Chicago.? The Bulls would go into halftime with a slim 50-47 lead.? The third quarter was relatively close as Golden State knotted the game at 77 going into the fourth quarter.? After the Warriors’ Baron Davis made a layup to pull within 101-100 with 2:16 left in the game, the Bulls would score the next 7 points - all of them on free throws, including 4 by Joe Smith.? Golden State’s Davis missed a driving layup which could have put the Warriors ahead; Chicago would hold on for the victory.
Chicago’s leading scorer was the aforementioned Chris Duhon with a career-high 34 points, 2 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 steals; Smith scored 27 with 8 rebounds and an assists, while Tyrus Thomas added 15 with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a pair of blocks.?
