All of us who follow the NBA and specifically the New York Knicks already knew that point guard Stephon Marbury has been suffering from an ankle problem for some time; it appears that Marbury is worse off than was expected.? According to the New York Post on Saturday, the left ankle injury that Marbury is suffering from is more serious than originally thought and will more than likely sideline him for the rest of the season.
According to the Post’s report, Dr. William Hamilton discovered more damage than?first expected when he operated on Marbury 2 1/2 weeks ago, with 7 bone fragments in the ankle, causing pain.? The Knicks will continue to list Marbury as “out indefinitely”; assuming that he does not return this season, Marbury’s career with the Knicks would appear to be over.? An 11-year veteran, Marbury’s playing status has been a daily uncertainty ever since he abruptly left the team on Novenber 13, 2007 when he learned that he had been demoted from the starting lineup.
Marbury has also taken 3 leaves of absence since the death of his father on December 2, 2007; Marbury will earn $20.1 million this season and $21.9 million in 2008-09.? Before his injury, Marbury was averaging 13.9 PPG, 4.7 APG and 2.5 RPG in 24 games this season.
