Meet The New Heat; Same As The Old Heat Lakers Win 104-94
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The names may have changed, but the song remains the same. The Miami Heat right now are a bad basketball team, there is no other way to put it. Two years removed from being the NBA Champions, they are in search of an identity. Why Pat Riley is putting himself through this, instead of opening up a surf board shop on Maui is beyond me! I mean the man has won NBA Championships in two different cities, the ship he’s on right now only resembles the Titanic. Oh Yeah, the “New Look Miami Heat” looked pretty much the same on Sunday losing to the Los Angeles Lakers 104-94.? Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with a game high 33 points, new Miami forward Shawn Marion recorded a double-double in the loss.
The game was a contest for the first 24 minutes of play, after Miami?recovered from their trance like start. Los Angeles scored the first 8 points of the game before Dorell Wright made the first of two back to back baskets. But then Miami got hot, taking their first lead of the game at 16-14, and running it up to 22-16 as Jason Williams hit an outside jumper with 1:45 left in the period. The Lakers closed out the quarter on a 9-2 run to lead 25-24 at the end of the first. Miami would tie the game at 43-43 as Marion hit a short range jump shot with 4:31 left in the quarter. But again the Lakers pulled off an 8-4 run to jack the lead back up to 51-47 as the game reached the half. Los Angeles started the third quarter off on a tear,?as they pulled ahead 74-60. But Miami persevered and were down just 76-73?as Williams hit a trey?with 2:11 left in the period. L.A. once again put some distance between the two teams, going on a 6-0 jaunt to lead 72-63 heading into the final 12 minutes of play. That was it for Miami as they never got any closer than being down?9 points ?in the final quarter.
Kobe scored a game high 33 points in the victory, he had 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals. Lamar Odom recorded a double-double, scoring 15 points, a game high 18 boards, 6 assists, 1 steal, the Lakers’ new cult hero Sasha Vujacic scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. Pau Gasol continues to impress in a Lakers uniform scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block.
Mark Blount who has done better than anyone, could have possibly expected as Miami’s new starting center, had another big game. Blount scored 22 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal, Dwyane Wade scored 19 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 steals. Marion in his first game in a Miami uniform recorded a double-double, 15 points,?14 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, Dorell Wright also scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 block. Jason?Williams scored 10 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal,? the other new member of the Heat guard Marcus Banks came off the bench, and scored 7 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds in the loss. The Lakers now have a record of 33-17, Miami has the worst record in the Association at 9-40.
