Wild Wild West Leads Hornets Past Grizzlies 112-99

David West recorded a double-double Saturday night as he led the New Orleans Hornets over the Memphis Grizzlies 112-99. Peja Stojakovic came up big as well making 7 treys, on a night when the Hornets were without two of their starters. Mo Peterson missed the game with a sore back, and Tyson Chandler who is having his best year in the Association was out with the flu. Despite the wide margin of victory Memphis played pretty competitively each quarter, however they never led in the game.
New Orleans led by a slim margin at the end of the first quarter as they were up 22-20 at the end of the period. Although the Hornets would get the lead into double digits, the Grizzlies came back to make it just a 6 point game at the half, New Orleans with the 48-42 advantage. Memphis cut the Hornets lead to just 1 point at 53-52 with 8:00 remaining in the third, as Darko Milicic slammed home a dunk. But by the end of the quarter they had slipped back to trailing by 10 points, 81-71. The Grizzlies had one more run left in them as they cut the Hornets lead to 87-84, as Hakim Warrick laid it up and in with 6:37 remaining in the game. But that was all Memphis had left, as New Orleans scored 11 unanswered points pushing the lead to 98-84, and the Grizzlies could not mount another challenge.
West shot 13-20 from the floor, 7-8 from the line for a game high 33 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block. Stojakovic scored 26 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, Jannero Pargo scored 13 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds. Hilton Armstrong who started at center instead of Chandler had a nice night, 11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal, Rasual Butler scored 10 points, 4 boards, 2 blocks, 2 assists. Chris Paul only scored 2 points, as he could not hit anything, but still as the great ones do he compensated, dishing off 16 assists.?
Rudy Gay led the way for Memphis scoring 26 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Mike Miller scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, Michael Conley Jr. back in the starting lineup for Memphis scored 16 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal. Darko Milicic scored 14 points, 7 boards, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 2 steals, and Hakim Warrick scored 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block. The Hornets are now 34-15, Memphis is 13-37.
