Paul Pierce scored 24 points, Ray Allen celebrated being named to the NBA All-Star team with an additional 21 points, and the Boston Celtics defeated the New York Knicks 111-103 Wednesday night. It was Boston’s fifth straight win, even more impressive was the fact that they have done it without the services of Kevin Garnett, who has missed nine straight games with a strained abdominal muscle.?Garnett will also miss playing in this Sunday’s All-Star game with teammates Allen, and Pierce.

Allen got the news that he made the Eastern Conference?All-Star team at half time of?Wednesday night’s game. He will replace Washington Wizard forward Caron Butler who is injured. Allen said that he was very honored and pleased to be?name for the game. Both Pierce and Allen will play for Celtics coach Doc?Rivers who will be coaching the Eastern squad. Allen had plans to play golf in the Bahamas this weekend, he said he will gladly give up that game for the game in New Orleans.

New York led off the game playing pretty well as they led Boston 24-21 at the end of the first quarter. Boston came back with a vengeance in the second quarter leading at the half 53-40. The Green Team got the lead as high as 27? points, when Pierce hit a jumper putting the Celtics ahead 75-48 with 5:47 left in the quarter. But the Knicks closed out the quarter on a 24-10 run, and putting themselves back in the game as Boston led 85-72 at the end of three. But New York had dug themselves too deep a hole to climb out of as they never got closer than 7 points in the fourth quarter.

Pierce scored 24 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block. Allen scored 21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, Leon Powe who is making a stronger case with each game to remain the Celtics starting center for the rest of the season, had 18 points, 8 boards, 1 block, 1 assist. Rajon Rondo also scored 18 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks, Tony Allen came off the bench and scored 14 points, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 rebound.

Jamal Crawford led all?players as he scored a game high 26 points, 7 assists, 6 steals, 2 rebounds, in the loss. Zach Randolph recorded a double-double, 20 points, 13 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, David Lee came off the bench and scored 18 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal. Nate Robinson also had a nice?game off the bench, 5 assists, 1 rebound, 1 steal, Fred Jones scored 10 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal. Boston has guaranteed themselves no worse than a .500 season, as they are now 41-9, New York is 15-37.
