Two rather out of the ordinary feats were accomplished before the All-Star break in the 2007-2008 NBA campaign. The first one occurred Wednesday night as the Boston Celtics assured themselves of no worse than a .500 season as they go into the break with a record of 41-9. The second one too place Thursday night, as the Miami Heat guaranteed that they would have a losing season, even if they win every remaining game left on their schedule! They accomplished that by losing to the Chicago Bulls Thursday 99-92. It was their ninth straight loss on the current losing streak, and they limp into the break with an embarrassing 9-42 record.

The Miami Heat are a unit that is less than the whole of it’s collective parts. If you take the roster apart man by man there is definitely quite a bit of individual talent. However when the sum is put together it is just an out and out mess. This from a team, that won it all less than two years ago. It truly boggles the mind when you think of how rapid their descent has been. The task of wearing too many hats has taken it’s toll on?Pat Riley, and in turn his team, and subsequently their fans. Pat as someone who has had a lot of respect for what you have been able to accomplish over a stellar coaching career, you may want to take this weekend to reflect. Maybe it is time for you to take a break?from the game. You have visibly aged ten years since November.

The?fact that when this game was put on the schedule, it was looked at as a marquee matchup is truly laughable now. These are two teams that have fallen far below their preseason expectations. This was probably not one of the higher rated games on the TNT?schedule this campaign. Actually the game itself was really?quite competitive, as?the Bulls and the Heat each scored the same amount of points in the first and fourth quarters. Chicago however was able to build a?7 point cushion?during the second and third periods, and hang?on for the lead.??

Kirk Hinrich came off the bench for Chicago and led the way scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal. Veteran Joe Smith was one of three Chicago starters with a double-double, as he scored 19 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, Andres Nocioni scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists. Thabo Sefolosha recorded a double-double, 17 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist, Tyrus Thomas also registered a double 10 points, 12 boards, 4 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal.

Dwyane Wade scored a game high 30 points for Miami, 7 assists, 7 boards, 2 steals. Shawn Marion continued to impress in a Heat uniform as he scored 23 points, 7 rebounds, 4?steals, 3 assists, 1 block. They were the only two players from Miami to score in double figures in the loss. Chicago goes into the?break with a mark of 21-31, Miami?goes into the break wishing it would never end.
