Rockets To Honor Olajuwon With Monument

Former Houston Rockets center Akeem Olajuwon, besides being a finalist for the Nasimith Basketball of Fame this year, is also being honored by the Rockets with an unveiling of a monument outside Toyota Center on April 11, according to the Associated Press.

Organizers have said that they worked hard to honor Olajuwon’s request that the monument adhered to his?Islamic beliefs; team spokesman Nelson Luis told AP that specific details about the monument?had not yet been released.? One piece of information that was gleaned came from Houston television station KRIV was that the monument, in and of itself, would focus on his jersey and accomplishments; however, in keeping?with the temets of his faith, there will be no likeness or picture of Olajuwon.? Olajuwon has sta6ted that a statue was not acceptable because it is against his faith.
