Reports Say Deal May Be Back On, Just Slightly Different; Sending J-Kidd To Mavs
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
NBA trades were a lot easier to pull off back in the day. Red Auerbach, could pick up the phone and call the St. Louis Hawks, and offer to trade Cliff Hagan and “Easy Ed” Macauley to them for their number two pick in the NBA Draft. By the way that number two pick was a guy by the name of Bill Russell. Now in 2008, you would need 7 lawyers,?6 agents, and three “capologists” to get the same deal done!
ESPN reported Sunday night that the deal that has turned into the circus of the absurd, may be back on again. ESPN.com is reporting that the trade that would send Jason Kidd from the New Jersey Nets to the Dallas Mavericks, may happen this week, just with a slightly different lineup. The report says that New Jersey would still receive, Mavs point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop, and guard Maurice Ager, plus the draft picks in 2008, and 2010. Now is where the twist come in. Instead of Devean George, and Jerry Stackhouse, New Jersey will receive Trenton Hassell, and Keith Van Horn. Van Horn who has not been anywhere near a NBA team all year will receive a sign and trade contract from Dallas, and they will then send him to New Jersey. And then people ask me why I despise salary caps! The deal could be finalized on a conference call Monday morning and then would need approval by the NBA office.
