The “Akron Beacon-Journal” Tuesday reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers are talking with Philadelphia 76ers about the possible acquisition of Sixers point guard Andre Miller. The paper reports that the Cavaliers, have sparked interest in Philadelphia, because of veteran shooting guard Ira Newble. Newble is in the last year of a pact that he signed as a free agent with former Cleveland General Manager Jim Paxson. Paxson signed Newble, as well as point guard Kevin Ollie to long term pacts, Ollie was gone after one year, ironically traded to the Sixers for guard Eric Snow. Now that Newble’s deal is ending it makes him a very valuable commodity to NBA teams, because they will be able to utilize his salary slot next season.

Miller was drafted by Cleveland, and played his first few seasons, there before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for Darius Miles. Miller in this observers opinion, is a more valuable piece for Cleveland than Mike Bibby would have been. Bibby was just traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Atlanta Hawks and was rumored for months to be headed to Cleveland. Miller, is healthier, and is a natural point guard, someone who thinks pass first , and shoot second. The acquisition of Miller, would put Cleveland along side Detroit, and Boston as elite teams in the NBA Eastern Conference.
