The Dallas Mavericks announced Tuesday afternoon, what they had hoped to announce last week, Jason Kidd is back as the point guard for the Dallas Mavericks. The trade between Dallas and the New Jersey Nets who sent the veteran back to his original team in the NBA took more twists and turns than an old country road. Dallas owner Mark Cuban?had said last week the deal was dead. It took some personnel changes, but the deal finally came to fruition on Tuesday.

The completed deal will look like this, J-Kidd, Malik Allen ,and Antoine Wright are heading to Dallas to play for the Mavericks. The Nets will receive, Harris, center DeSagana Diop, and guard Maurice Ager, plus the draft picks in 2008, and 2010. Now instead of Devean George, and Jerry Stackhouse, who were in the original agreement, New Jersey will receive Trenton Hassell, and Keith Van Horn. Van Horn who has not been anywhere near a NBA team all year will receive a sign and trade contract from Dallas, and they will then send him to New Jersey. George invoked a no-trade clause causing the first deal to fall apart. The Association told the Mavericks, that if they send Stackhouse to New Jersey, they would not allow him to re-sign with Dallas in 30 days. Stackhouse had said that he would return to the Mavericks in 30 days, anticipating the Nets would cut him after the trade was completed.

The trade gives the Mavericks a proven veteran leader to quarterback their team. There was all sorts of talk that Dallas folded under the expectations that were foisted upon them last year. Kidd will not allow that to happen, although it does come with a price the team has mortgaged their future for the present. If the Mavericks can get the brass ring this year or next then Dallas fans can say it was worth it. If they don’t, the next decade in Dallas could be very long, and very hard.
