LBJ Records Triple-Double Cavaliers Still Fall to Rockets 93-83

Back in January I wrote a review of a Television show A.I. Gets ?Framed? By Nelly. One of the lines that struck me most poignantly was when Iverson and Nelly were talking about the days that A.I. played for the Sixers. Iverson sadly shook his head and said “Yeah score 50 points, and still can’t win a game.” Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James must have had a similar feeling Tuesday night as LBJ had a triple-double, and his team still lost to the Houston Rockets 93-83.?
The Rockets won their ninth consecutive game to open up the Post All-Star break on a successful note. “Skip-To-My-Lou” Rafer Alston led Houston with a team high 22 points, and Yao Ming registered a double-double 16 points, and 14 boards, as the Rockets are 18-3 since January4. The victory was also the ninth straight road win tying a team record for Houston, that they first set in 1993.
The Cavaliers were never quite out of the game but never quite threatening either. Houston had a razor thin margin leading 21-20 at the end of the first. Houston was able to extend their lead in the second quarter, taking a 52-46 advantage as the two teams reached the half. Cleveland would pull within 2 points, as LBJ hit a 19 foot jumper to make it 44-42 with 9:48 left in the third. But the Rockets surged ahead taking a 66-59 lead at the end of the quarter. Ira Newble hit the first bucket of the final period to bring the Cavaliers to within 5 points, at 66-61. But that was as close as Cleveland would get as the Rockets ran away and hid.
Alston scored 22 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, in the win. Tracy McGrady scored 17 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal, Yao scored 16 points, 14 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal. Luis Scola scored 15 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block.
LBJ scored a game high 26 points, grabbed 13 boards, 11 assists, 2 steals, in 42 minutes of play. But as James would be the first one to say, the numbers don’t mean anything, if you don’t get the win. Center Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, Larry Hughes scored 16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists. Houston is now 33-20, Cleveland falls to 29-24.
