Anybody who was expecting that Jason Kidd in his return to playing in a Dallas Mavericks uniform would immediately bond with Dirk, Josh Howard, Jason?Terry, and he would cop his?100th triple-double of his career, and he would be the hero in an exciting Mavericks victory,?well this game was nothing like that.?Kidd?did not have a good game in his return to playing for the?Mavericks, he scored 8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, pretty pedestrian numbers any way you look at it. But, to be fair, after a roller coaster of a week, and with?most a shoot around together as a unit, the “New Look Mavericks” will be a work in progress.
One man who was definitely not impressed, was New Orleans Hornets?point guard Chris Paul who recorded a double-double, and just missed a?triple-double the hard way?playing against the old master AKA J-Kidd.??Paul scored?31 points, dished off 11 assists, had 9 steals, and led the Hornets to a not so nice?”Welcome to the West” for Kidd?as New Orleans won 104-93.
The game remained a contest for the first half as the Hornets had a slim 24-22 lead at the end of the first quarter, the game remained tight through the second quarter, as Dallas briefly grabbed the lead in the middle of the period. New Orleans was never up?by more than 4 points, and led 47-44 as the two teams reached the half. The Hornets though went on a tear at the end of the third quarter and had an 11 point edge going into the final 12 minutes of play up 75-64. Dallas was never really a factor in the fourth quarter.
Paul did it all, 31 points, 11 assists, 9 steals, 5 rebounds as he led his team to the win. Peja Stojakovic scored 18 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, David West also scored 18 for the Hornets, 8 boards, 2 assists. Bobby Jackson came off the bench and scored 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals.
Dallas was led by?Dirk Nowitzki who also scored 31 points, 8 boards, 2 assists, in the loss. Jason Terry came off the bench and scored 14 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, Erick Dampier scored 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block in the loss for the Mavericks. New Orleans improves to 37-15, Dallas is now 35-19.
