Round One Goes To Kobe Lakers Beat Suns 130-124

Kobe Bryant scored a game high 41 points, led five Los Angeles Lakers players in double figures, and the Lakers spoiled the “Lovefest” for the newest member of the Phoenix Suns team center Shaquille O’Neal by defeating Phoenix Wednesday night 130-124.? The Lakers shot a blistering 56.5% from the floor for the game (52-92) while the Suns shot a not too shabby 51.6% (48-93) for the game.
The two teams played each other tight in the first period, with Lakers taking a slim 32-29 lead at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was a game of runs, L.A. went up?45-32 when Sasha Vujacic hit a trey with 9:27 left in the quarter, Phoenix would cut the lead to just 2 points at 47-45, when Amare Stoudemire sank a bucket and the one at the line for the penalty on the play. But the Lakers would get the lead back up to 10 points,and finished the half leading 65-57. Phoenix had the lead back down to 2 points, a few times in the third period and went into the final quarter only down by 4 points at 95-91. Amare Stoudemire tied the game at 105-105 as he slammed home a dunk with 7:26 remaining in the game, but Phoenix would never get that close again.
Kobe had 41 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks in the win. Pau Gasol had another great night scoring 29 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, Lamar Odom recorded a double-double as he scored 22 points, grabbed 11 boards, 2 assists, 1 block. Sasha Vujacic came off the bench and scored 15 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, Derek Fisher scored 10 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, 1 steal.
Phoenix was led by Amare Stoudemire who recorded a double-double 37 points, 15 boards, 3 blocks, 1 steal, 1 assist. Steve Nash scored 26 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, the Grant Hill Come Back Tour is back in full gear as Hill registered a double-double, 17 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks. Leandro Barbosa scored 17 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, O’Neal had a nice game especially since he had not played since late January, he scored 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks. Boris Diaw had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block. L.A. is now 37-17, as is Phoenix tied for first in the NBA Pacific Division.
