Tracy, Yao, & “Skip-To-My-Lu” Rocket Houston Over Miami 112-100
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
For Houston it was Tracy, Yao, and “Skip-To-My-Lu,”?for Miami it was being down 15 in the last nine seconds of a game that you have gotten no closer than 8 points behind your opponent, and Ricky?Davis hits a meaningless 28 foot trey. That about sums up the game, and the respective seasons for the Houston Rockets who defeated the Miami Heat Thursday night 112-?100. McGrady, and Rafer Alston each had double-doubles for the Rockets in the victory.
Pat Riley was quoted by the “Palm Beach Post” as saying that he liked Ricky Davis, and wanted to discuss keeping him with the team after his contract expires at the end of the season. He probably also sold the reporter some “ocean front property” that was three feet under the Atlantic. Ricky Davis is the personification of every thing that Pat Riley despises in todays athlete. I covered Ricky for his period with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this decade. I like?Ricky, he is personable, affable, likable, and a decent sound bite. But Ricky Davis would rather be the best player on a bad team, than a piece of a championship team. That?does not denigrate his skills, or his character, that is just telling it like it is.
This game was for all intent and purposes, over some time during the first quarter. Houston led 41-26 after the first quarter, and it never really got any prettier after that. The Rockets were ahead 62-48 at the half, and the Heat still came back out on the floor for the second half. Miami actually had the lead down to just 8 points, a couple of times in? the third, but Houston was?up 87-75 heading into the final 12 minutes.?The fourth quarter was just a continuation of garbage time.
McGrady scored 23 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, in the victory. Center Yao Ming scored 21 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block,?Carl Landry came off the bench, and scored 19 points, 5 rebounds. Alston had 16 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, Shane Battier scored 12 points,?5 rebounds, 4 assists. Luis Scola also recorded a double-double 11 points, 10 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals.
Dwyane Wade probably thought standing there holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy, that it was always going to be that easy. Welcome to reality brother!?D-Wade registered a double-double as he?scored 33 points, 11 assists, 4 rebounds.? Shawn Marion also recorded a double-double scoring 18 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks, 1 assist, Ricky scored 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. Mark Blount still your starting center with 11 points, 8 rebounds. Miami has now lost ten games in a row. Houston is now 34-20, Miami 9-43.
