The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Friday afternoon that they have signed two players from the NBDL for their contest Friday night as they host the Washington Wizards. The Cavaliers are extremely short handed now as a result of the comings and goings of the three team Mega-Trade between Cleveland, the Chicago Bulls, and the Seattle Supersonics, on Thursday. Cleveland also will b without shooting guard Daniel Gibson for the next 4-6 weeks with a badly sprained left ankle. The two players are both from The Colorado 14ers, they are forward Kaniel Dickens and guard Billy Thomas. Dickens has averaged 20.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists, Thomas has averaged 15.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists. The NBA bylines stipulate that a team must have a minimum of 8 players dressed for the game.

If you want an example of how few quality big men there are in the NBA in 2008, the Detroit Pistons are going after former Indiana Pacers big man Dale Davis. Didn’t he play against Wilt? The Pistons announced Friday that they have waived guard Ronald “Flip” Murray and are pursuing retired big man Dale Davis. Davis retired after playing the last two seasons in Detroit, he has not played at all this season. Murray was signed as a free agent by the Pistons after the 2006 season, he averaged 7.5 points, 3.4 assists, in just 19 games this season, including three starts. Aaron Afflalo and Rodney Stuckey had supplanted Flip in the Detroit rotation.

Well as if life was not going to be tough enough for the next couple of weeks for the Cleveland Cavaliers, after the huge shakeup the team went through on Thursday with the three team “Mega-Trade” they were involved in, once again the Cavaliers have been bit by the injury bug.The Associated Press reported Friday that the latest victim?is Cleveland shooting guard Daniel Gibson, who severely sprained his left ankle on Wednesday night as Cleveland defeated Indiana. Gibson who was assisted off the hardwood by teammates will miss between 4-6 weeks with the injury. There is a great possibility that Cleveland will have to sign players from the NBDL just to be able to dress the league minimum of 8 players for their contest Friday night against the Washington Wizards. The game will be telecast on a National basis on ESPN, I’m sure the guys in programming are ecstatic.

Now that the NBA trading deadline is over, New York City Tabloid writers can go back to their favorite event this time of the year, predicting the demise of Zeke AKA Isiah Thomas New York Knicks President of Basketball Operations and head coach. Marc Berman who writes for the “New York Post” seems to derive a whole lot of pleasure in partaking in this task. Marc is one of the best beat reporters in the NBA, and actually a very nice guy (I know nice guy New York City sportswriter, there is a disconnect. Most of the New York media are truly good people especially those who cover the Knicks. You learn to get humble pretty quickly when the team you cover is one of the worst in the NBA. I have been there, after covering the 15-67 Cleveland Cavaliers.) Marc however seems to really have a strong dislike for Zeke, I don’t know if it as a person, or as a professional, that he dislikes him, but you can just feel the disdain come off the page when you read him.

On Friday Marc wrote that former Phoenix Suns head honcho Jerry Colangelo would be interested in taking over running the Knicks, if the job opens up after the season. Apparently according to the report NBA Commissioner David Stern would also favor that move. Knicks owner James Dolan did not seem to back up Thomas when he was asked about the Knicks last weekend in New Orleans. Dolan who was down in the Big Easy for NBA All-Star weekend when asked about his team reportedly said “I’m not commenting on the Knicks and I’m not commenting for a long time.”?

The “Chicago Tribune” reported on Friday that there is definitely a difference in perception within the Chicago Bulls organization in the wake of the Mega-Trade that took place on Thursday involving the Bulls, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Seattle SuperSonics. Just to refresh your memory, the deal went down like this Cleveland acquired Chicago center Ben Wallace, Seattle swingman Wally Szczerbiak, Sonics point guard Delonte West Chicago?s Joe Smith and a future second round pick from the Bulls. Chicago got Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, and reserves Cedric Simmons, and Shannon Brown. Seattle received Ira Newble, and Donyell Marshall from Cleveland as well as Adrian Griffin from the Bulls. Chicago guard Ben Gordon seems to think it may turn ominously, he told the paper “You have to think this trade has an impact on everybody. How, I don’t know. Only time will tell.”

However Bulls General Manager John Paxson says this deal has absolutely nothing to do with Gordon. Paxson said “This has nothing to do with Ben Gordon’s future. It really doesn’t. Since (interim coach Jim Boylan) took the job, he has been our sixth man. He’ll continue in that role. He provides a huge component for us as a scorer. The whole thing with Ben coming off the bench is a size issue.” As I always say there are three sides to every story, Your side, My side, and the Truth, which usually falls somewhere between your side and my side.
