Double-Doubles From Duncan & Manu Take Sting Out Of Hornets Spurs Win 98-89

Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili each recorded a double-double and the San Antonio Spurs defeated the New Orleans Hornets Saturday night 98-89 as they won their fifth straight game. The win also vaulted San Antonio into a first place tie with the Hornets on top of the NBA Southwest Division each with a record of 37-17.?New Orleans lost Friday night to the Houston Rockets 100-80, and have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games.
San Antonio gave their guests the?Hornets a rude welcome as they took off to a quick start and led at the end of the first quarter 26-21. They extended their lead to 50-35 as the two teams went their respective lockers at the half. New Orleans cut the lead down to single digits by the end of the third quarter as the Spurs were ahead 76-67. New Orleans opened the fourth quarter on a tear, going an 11-2 run to tie San Antonio at?78-78 with 7:05 left in the game as new Hornets?guard Mike James sunk one through the cylinder. And then quite simply, New Orleans just ran out of gas, San Antonio went on their own run of 18-6 and it was 96-84 after Ginobili hit two from the line with 1:43 remaining.
“Manu The Magnificent” once again led San Antonio as he scored 30 points, 12 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal in the win. Duncan scored 25 points, grabbed 11 boards, 6 assists, 4 blocks, 1 steal, Tony Parker back in the starting lineup for the first time since January scored 10 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds.
Hornets guard Chris Paul had the offense going Saturday night but had an unusually low night on the assist front, Paul scored 27 points, but had?just 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal. These are numbers most NBA players would drool over but Paul has set a higher standard for himself than that.? David West scored 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal,?Peja Stojakovic scored 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1?assist in?the loss.
