Rasheed Wallace led six Detroit Pistons players in double figures Sunday and the Pistons shot 51.7% from the floor for the game (46-89) and 50% from outside the arc (9-18) as they blotted out the Phoenix Suns with an all out assault, embarrassing them in front of the Phoenix fans 116-86.? It was the Suns worst loss of the campaign,?their previous largest losing margin was on January 10, when they fell to the Utah Jazz 108-86. It was only the third Phoenix loss to a NBA Eastern Conference team this season, they are now 22-3 against the East.??

No matter if it turns out that Suns G.M. Steve Kerr made the right move or not trading Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Miami for the “Big Aristotle” Shaquille O’Neal to expect a seamless transition would be simply ludicrous. The only trade made in the last few weeks that was seamless was the Lakers acquiring Pau Gasol, because that was purely an upgrade. You traded Spam (Kwame Brown) for Prime Rib (Gasol.) You will basically have the same thing happen when Andrew Bynum come back into the picture, as Gasol is definitely an upgrade over Vladimir Radmanovic. However in the Phoenix trade you have take a unit that was running as a precision machine, and radically altered it’s makeup. It’s far too early to make anything more than a first impression analysis of this move, or the Dallas move, or even the Cavaliers move. After about 10 games together there will start to be indicators of whether the new unit is as cohesive as it’s predecessor, that’s why it is especially tough to make mid-season trades in the NBA.

This game on the other hand was very easy to get a handle on? quite early as you knew this would just be a rout for Detroit. Pistons started kicking tail and taking names early and just never stopped until it was too late for the Suns. While Phoenix was still trying to find the basket Detroit broke out to a 27-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. They extend their lead to 59-41 as the game reached the half. They virtually ended the game in the third quarter, as they had a 90-58 advantage over Phoenix. The fourth quarter was extended garbage time.

Wallace scored 22 points, had 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and played just 26 minutes in the game. Richard Hamilton scored 18 points, 1 assist, Jarvis Hayes came off the bench for Detroit and scored 18 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds. Chauncey Billups recorded a double-double as he scored 14 points, dished off 11 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, Antonio McDyess also registered a double-double scoring 12 points, grabbing 13 boards, 1 assist. Tayshaun Prince scored 10 points, 1 steal, 1 assist, 1 rebound.

Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 31 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 block. Leandro Barbosa scored 18 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, Steve Nash had an off night 11 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 block. Shaq only scored 7 points for Phoenix, but he grabbed 11 boards, 1 assist, in the loss. Detroit improves to 41-15, while Phoenix is now 38-18.
