Cavaliers Owner Gilbert Pleased With “Cavalier 2.0″
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The “Medina County Gazette” Monday reported?that Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is very excited about the?blockbuster trade that went down last week involving the Cavaliers the Chicago Bulls, and the Seattle Super Sonics. The three teams?completed a deadline deal that radically altered the makeup of the Cleveland franchise.??Just to refresh your memory, the deal went down like this Cleveland acquired Chicago center Ben Wallace, Seattle swingman Wally Szczerbiak, Sonics point guard Delonte West Chicago?s Joe Smith and a future second round pick from the Bulls. Chicago got Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, and reserves Cedric Simmons, and Shannon Brown. Seattle received Ira Newble, and Donyell Marshall from Cleveland as well as Adrian Griffin from the Bulls.
Gilbert spoke with the Cleveland media before?the Cavaliers took the court Sunday night as they blew out the Memphis Grizzlies at the?Q Arena 109-89. Gilbert said that this was the next logical step in the evolution of the Cavaliers “I thought it was pretty important. I think everybody thought it was important. I don?t know if it would have been the death of the franchise. We did get to the NBA Finals with the team we had, but it’s gotten a lot harder. I’m very excited. This is Cavalier 2.0, meaning 1.0 allowed us to get to a certain point. With these new guys here, it’s going to take us to another level.”
