Cassell Released By Clippers Could Be Boston Bound
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Associated Press reported Thursday night that the Los Angeles Clippers have after a lengthy drawn out process finally released veteran point guard Sam Cassell Thursday night. Cassell had missed the last four games for L.A. as he has been out with a sprained right wrist. The ?Los Angeles Times? reported earlier?Thursday that the Los Angeles Clippers?were willing to allow veteran point guard to become a free agent, if they could keep the money that they owed him. According to the report, the Clippers had told Cassell that they would gladly release him so that he can sign with a contending team in the NBA, but they did not?want to pay him the 1.2 million dollars that they owed him. Needless to say Cassell?was not pleased with the development. Cassell spoke to reporters and ?said ?I?m not doing it. I know for a fact I?ve done tremendous things for this organization. I?ve helped this organization have respectability in the city of L.A. at least for a year, where everybody walked around with their chests out and they can?t tell me I didn?t.?
Apparently the team has decided to pay Cassell all the money owed to him. Los Angeles General Manager Elgin Baylor released a statement to the press “After weighing all of the options, and after conversations with Sam, we believe this is the best solution for this team. We know and appreciate the many contributions Sam made during the last three years, and we wish him nothing but the best.” Sources close to Cassell say he has his heart set on playing in Boston.
