The Associated Press reported Monday that Houston Rockets center Yao Ming underwent successful surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot. The surgery will keep Yao out of action for the balance of the NBA season, but his doctors believe he will be sufficiently recovered to play for the Chinese National team in this Summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing. Rockets team doctor Doctor Tom Clanton and Dr. Bill McGarvey performed the surgery Monday morning and said the patient is resting comfortably. Yao released a statement through the team that read  “I am very relieved that everything went well with my surgery today. I am looking forward to getting better and starting my physical rehab as soon as the doctors say I can. I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes during this time and I look forward to the day that I can rejoin my Rockets teammates on the bench.”
