The Seattle SuperSonics scored 41 points, in the first quarter against one of the Association’s best defensive teams the Detroit Pistons. But a terrible second quarter by Seattle coupled with a late Pistons rally gave Detroit the victory Tuesday night as they rallied to win 100-97. Tayshaun Prince led Detroit with a game high 24 points, it was the second win in a row for Detroit who have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Seattle may have had their best quarter of the season in the first quarter as they broke out to a 41-28 advantage at the end of the period. But they followed it up with a second quarter that was just short of horrific, as they scored just 13 points, and their lead was down to just one point at the half as they led 54-53. The Pistons grabbed the lead in the third quarter with 7:01 left in the third as Richard Hamilton hit a 24 foot trey to put Detroit up 60-58. But the lead was short lived as Seattle again gained the upper hand, and built the lead back up to as much as a 6 point advantage, but settled for being back up by one at the end of the third 78-77.  Jason Maxiell hit a trey for the Pistons to put them ahead 81-78 early in the fourth quarter, and with just 5:41 left in the game Richard Hamilton hit an outside shot to put Detroit ahead by 10 points 90-80. Seattle tried to rally but fell short.

Tayshaun Prince scored 24 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, for Detroit in the victory. Chauncey Billups scored 20 points, 9 assists, 5 steals, 1 rebound, Richard Hamilton scored 18 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds.

Earl Watson paced Seattle with 23 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal.  Chris Wilcox recorded a double-double, as he scored 20 points, 10 boards, Kevin Durant scored 20 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block. Seattle’s “other rookie” Jeff Green scored 15 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Detroit is now 44-16 after the win, while Seattle is 16-44.
