Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
LeBron James just missed a triple-double as he scored a game high 50 points, dished off 10 assists, and had 8 rebounds, as he strapped the Cleveland Cavaliers on his back Wednesday night and?carried his team to victory as Cleveland defeated the New York Knicks 119-105. It was the second 50 point game this season for LBJ, and the Madison Square Garden?crowd was chanting MVP and gave him a standing ovation as he left the court. James was visibly moved.
Many of my peers in the media, have said that the NBA MVP is down to a two?man race between Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. I’m not willing to go there yet, there are far too many games left in the regular season, and there are too many other worthy candidates. Tracy McGrady in Houston somehow keeping a 16 game winning streak alive without Yao?Ming, Dwight Howard in Orlando, who has taken his game to a new level this season. Chris Paul in New Orleans, Brandon Roy, in Portland deserve consideration, not to mention Nash, and Stoudemire in Phoenix, Iverson, and Anthony, in Denver, and any of the “Elite Three” in Boston. And we could easily go on, however if it is a two man race, LBJ may have gained the upper hand again Wednesday night.
The Knicks hung tough for the first three quarters of the contest. The two teams were deadlocked at 27-27 at the end of the first quarter, Cleveland pulled ahead slightly in the second quarter as they went to the locker room with a 58-54 advantage.?The Cavaliers were ahead by 8 points, at 64-56?with just under 9:00 left in the third quarter, when the Knicks exploded.?New York went on an 18-2 run to jump ahead of Cleveland 74-66 as Jamal Crawford hit a 28 foot trey with 5:03 left in the period. But Cleveland regrouped, and the lead back at 84-82 heading into the fourth quarter.?The lead volleyed back and forth for the first couple of minutes of the fourth, New York was up 90-88 when Damon Jones hit a trey to put Cleveland ahead 91-90. New York fell behind quickly, and Cleveland got the?victory.
LBJ scored 50 points, 10 assists,?8 rebounds, 4 steals in 44 minutes of playing time. Damon Jones came up big off the bench as he scored 15 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, Devin Brown scored 14 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound. Delonte West scored 10 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal.
Jamal Crawford,?had yet another nice game for New York, as he scored 25 points, 3 assists,?2 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 block. Nate Robinson scored 24 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, Eddie Curry scored?20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 assists. David Lee starting in place of Zach Randolph scored 17 points, 8 boards,?1 block, 1 steal, Wilson Chandler came off the bench and scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block. Cleveland now has a record of 35-26, New York is 18-43.
