Paul, Peja, & Pargo Push Hornets Past Hawks 116-101

Peja Stojakovic scored a game high 29 points, Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler both recorded double-doubles, Jannero Pargo came up big coming off the bench and the New Orleans Hornets shot 51.7 (15-29) from outside the arc, as they beat the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday night 116-101 at the New Orleans Arena. The Hornets dominated in the first and third quarters and held their own in the other two quarters to take the victory.

If you are a regular reader of mine, you know how strong a proponent I have been for the last several years?of New Orleans point guard Chris Paul. This young man has already proved he is great, he could be on the way to proving he is special.I mean, Bob Cousy, Tiny Archibald, Isiah Thomas, once in a generation special(I know you are asking why is Magic Johnson not on this list. Although Johnson?predominantly played point guard in his career, he could excel at a myriad of positions. Take for example the game he played center for the Lakers to win the NBA Finals in 1980.) Paul has what those other players had, a rare combination of bring cerebral, and athletic. Paul’s court vision, and awareness is astounding, and as a result he makes everyone else around him better.?

The Hornets took the lead at the end of the first quarter as they held a 28-20 advantage over Atlanta. New Orleans was up by 13 points, at 58-45 after Pargo hit an outside shot with 50 seconds left in the half. However Solomon Jones, and Mario West both went 2-2 at the line during the closing seconds to bring the Hawks back within 9 at 58-49 at the half. In the third quarter Joe Johnson hit a 14 foot jumper to bring Atlanta within 3 points at 62-59 with 8:32 left in the period. But New Orleans went on a tear, and at the end of the quarter were up by 15 points 88-73. Atlanta never got within single digits in the final period.

Peja Stojakovic scored a game high 29 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, in the victory for the Hornets. Chris Paul scored 23 points, dished off a game high 18 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds, Jannero Pargo scored 22 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. Tyson Chandler scored 14 points, grabbed a game high 16 boards, 2 blocks, 1 assist, Julian Wright also was a big contributor coming off the bench scoring 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists.

Joe Johnson led the Hawks with 24 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals.? Mike Bibby had one of his better games since coming over to Atlanta, as he scored 21 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, Josh Smith scored 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks. ?Josh Childress came off the bench and also scored 12 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, Marvin Williams scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist. New Orleans is now 41-19, while Atlanta falls to 24-35.
